Hello,
Welcome to the 2009-2010 school year at Canyon Ridge! My name is Carmen Sublasky and I am this year’s PTA® president. The starting of the school year brings excitement and new changes for our students as they begin a new grade level, learn new things, and make new friends. And our parent support organization is also going through some exciting changes as well!
First off, we are now officially a PTA®! We are very excited about this change as it provides us the support and national backing to support the Canyon Ridge community the best we can! Becoming a PTA® also offers many other benefits to our members as well. Membership includes:
· Right to vote at general meetings (students can vote if members too!)
· Individual, family, and business memberships are now available
· Access to online training at the PTA® website on various educational topics
· PTA® members receive corporate discounts at places like Southwest Airlines Travel, T-Mobile and more!
· Chances to participate in fun school events and support our school!
What does being a PTA® member NOT include?
· Overwhelming amounts of your time
· Binding commitments
Another new change for us is some shifts and duties on the board. We thank everyone that has helped thus far and look forward to even more support from all of our wonderful families. Our board members are as follows:

Our focus is on building community and supporting the educational endeavors of the school. In the past we’ve helped provide smart boards, contributed to the outdoor classroom, provided books for the library, and supported teachers in their lessons with funding for various supporting educational events and items. This year so far, we’re pleased to have been able help support the new book room with book boxes and shelving to organize the books teachers will be using to help our students progress in their reading literacy!
This year we’d love to see 100% parent/teacher/student support. Sound ambitious? It may be, but think of the many ways you can support your school:
· Being a PTA® member
· Volunteering at various events
· Collecting Box Tops for Education
· Attending various PTA® events around the school year
· Supporting PTA® fund raising events
